Sometimes, shoots are planned weeks in advance. Coordinated down to the last outfit. Styled for perfection. And sometimes — the magic just strikes. You have a canoe. A pond. A leftover bouquet with half-eaten blooms. A sunset you know will be killer. And that’s all you need.
This was one of those moments. Unscripted, wild-hearted, and born of instinct. A visual poem written on water.
Welcome to our Sunset Canoe Session — part daydream, part impromptu art project, and completely unforgettable.

How It All Came Together: A Canoe, a Bouquet of Country Love Bloom Florals, a pond, 2 photographers, 2 models, and a Gut Feeling
Let me back up.
I’ve had my eye on this canoe for a while. It’s been sitting in the garden beside my dad’s house — unused, untouched, almost forgotten. A dusty green dream boat waiting to be filled with florals, light, and flowing fabric.
The idea had always been in the back of my mind. But it wasn’t until the night after a completely wild horse-themed shoot (yes, with ex-racehorses and pampas grass!) that I knew it was go-time.
The flowers were already on their second life — day-old, sun-soaked, and nibbled and trampled by horses — but still holding on beautifully. I had just enough time before sunset. So I threw out a casting call (as I often do — if you’re not in my Wild Love Tribe Facebook group, get in there!), strapped the canoe to the roof of my car (500m of neighborhood glory), and headed down the road.

The Pond: Our Mirror to Magic
There’s a little pond just down the road from my place. It’s not a grand lake or a landmark destination — just a quiet, reflective slice of nature I’ve always adored. The way the sun sets beyond the water gives it this molten, glowing surface that turns every ripple into gold.
When we arrived, the light was perfect. Crickets and frogs sang in the grass. Birds were still weaving through the sky. Curious neighbors slowed down in their cars to peek at what we were doing. A few even stopped to compliment the scene — we looked like something straight out of a painting. And in true small-town style, we even got landowner permission from a passerby who assured us the pond shoot was a-okay.
We had the OK. We had the light. We had the canoe.
Now we just needed the muses.

The Models: Stevie & Angela, Goddess Energy Unleashed
Two amazing women came out to model — and let me tell you, they delivered.
Stevie
Stevie was ethereal. She floated through the session in a nude-toned sheer dress, posing with the calm grace of a water nymph and the power of a woman who knows her angles. Her connection to the environment — the stillness of the pond, the quiet in the air — was unreal. Every movement felt like poetry. Like she had stepped out of a myth and into my camera frame.
Angela
Angela brought a bold contrast. She arrived in a red dress that popped against the blue-grey tones of the water and faded grasses. Later, she changed into a tan flowy dress to match Stevie’s energy, and together they created the most divine duo shots. Sisters of the lake. Priestesses of the sunset. AND photographer!!
Even more amazing? While Angela changed outfits, she grabbed behind-the-scenes content — catching Stevie’s poses, candid moments, and the magic that was happening both on and off camera. You know that vibe when everyone’s just in it together? This was that.

The Details: Florals, Fabric & That Floating Moment
Now let’s talk about what went in the canoe.
- The original floral arrangements (from the horse shoot the night before) had been through a lot. They'd been set outside in the sun, carried through dust, nibbled by curious horses — and still, they held up beautifully.
- I added a faux bouquet of peach and blush-toned roses to give the canoe a fresh, full feel. This combo — real and fake, soft and wild — felt perfect.
- Flowing fabric added softness. Draped over the edges. Tangled in toes. Lapping against the canoe’s hull as we moved across the pond.
We floated the canoe gently over the pond’s surface, steering with care. The reflections were unreal. Light sparkled. Dresses flowed. Everything was alive with that golden hour glow. It felt like we had stepped into a storybook dream.

A Few Hiccups (Because What’s a Shoot Without Them?)
Was it perfect? Not exactly. But maybe better because of it.
- I had no tripod on me which I will totally bring next time so I can get more aerial shots, doing Trial and error with my wide lens.
- no flash, which I think I will definitly bring next time to see the comparison, i debated on bringing it but knew we would be short on time, and comfortability and stability in the canoe, I didnt wanna waste time setting up!
- I had to juggle manual focus with floating subjects and shifting light.
- I wouldnt plan this so last minute so I could ask the neighbours this time first, but supposedly they wanna see the photos, and maybe I will share this blog post with them too!! THANKS NEIGHBOURS!!
- I always say better to ask for forgiveness then permission, but when someone wants your forgivness, and still gives you permission its an awkward conversation.. Noted. dont do what I did... the pond is literally 2 feet from the road.
- The canoe... well, it’s not exactly meant for modeling. There was balancing. Some wobbly moments. Some very careful leg maneuvers. A few holes from the old worn out floaters, so might need some repairs. A few wet bums.
But honestly? The photos turned out better than I could have imagined. They’re dreamy, cinematic, and full of life. I wouldn't change a thing — except maybe setting up a few tripod/timer shots next time for some extra angles. and getting in there myself!

Reflections on the Water: Why This Session Mattered
This shoot reminded me that you don’t need a luxury venue or a hundred vendors to create something unforgettable. You just need:
- An idea you can’t shake
- People who believe in your vision
- The guts to go for it, even if it’s a little muddy and wild
This shoot was a reminder that some of the best moments are spontaneous. Born not from perfection, but from passion. From trusting your gut and chasing the light.
And the best part?
This session was the spark for a whole new Canoe Session Experience.

Now Booking: Sunset Canoe Sessions
After this dreamy night, I knew I had to offer these officially. So yes — this is now a thing.
Want to:
- Pose like a goddess in a floating floral canoe?
- Watch the sunset paint the water around you?
- Laugh, splash, and maybe get a little wet and muddy?
- Leave with dreamy, romantic, fairytale-core images that feel like they belong on a book cover?
Then let’s make it happen. These sessions are limited to calm water nights and golden hour, so keep an eye on my socials and casting calls in the Wild Love Tribe Facebook group for spontaneous opportunities — or message me directly to be first on the list.
Bonus idea I’m playing with?
Fire on water.
Yes, I said it. Yes, it’s happening soon.

To the Women Who Made It Magic
Thank you to Stevie and Angela, for showing up, dressing up, and diving in (almost literally). Your energy made this whole evening come alive.
To my dad, whose canoe was finally used for greatness.
To the neighbors who slowed down and smiled instead of scowled.
To the sunset, the frogs, the crickets, and that perfect breeze.
And to the part of me that said, “Let’s just do it.” That version of myself always leads me somewhere worth going.

Final Thought: Don't Wait for the Perfect Moment
Sometimes, you have to grab the flowers before they wilt, strap the canoe to your car, and go for it. You won’t regret it.
Here’s to the next adventure.
Maybe next time... with fire.
With wild love,
